Francisco Domínguez

Francisco Domínguez studied composition with Gabriel Erkoreka at Musikene, where he finished his Bachelor degree with an honorific mention. Afterwards,he continued his studies with Beat Furrer and Klaus Lang at the Kunstuniversität Graz.

My approach to different cultures is sensory and immediate. I explore what distinguishes them and what connects them, using voice, sound, movement, and performative processes. I focus on gestures, textures, and energies that transcend any single tradition. The result is work where diversity becomes a living fabric of shared experiences, inviting the audience to take part in an open, sensory dialogue.

My work is inherently interdisciplinary: I approach art as a territory that cannot be confined to a single discipline. The human voice is a central axis, whose acoustic material I extract and translate into musical parameters. I also draw inspiration from architecture, environmental sound, electroacoustic techniques, and other artistic materials such as movement, light, and color. This combination allows me to create works where music, space, and time intertwine, offering unique sensory experiences.

My fascination with history and archaeology drives my work. Through ancient texts, quotations, and the exploration of their acoustic and gestural elements, I reconstruct and deconstruct the sounds of the past, sometimes reaching the most primitive states of instruments and musical gestures. This archaeological approach transforms historical references into contemporary material, creating works where the past resonates in a sensory and living way, and layers of time intertwine with the audience’s present experience.
